Matthew Cooper
Hi, my name is Matthew Cooper and I head up the design side of things for this web design & development duo known as the eDesign team.
It is my responsibility and core skill set to liaise with the client to establish a brief and a solid understanding of what goals they want to achieve with their website. I then begin brainstorming ideas for the color scheme, type and layout with the design ultimately coming together in psd format using photoshop.
The next step is to converse with my eDesign team co-founder Paul Dowding (the technical brains) to discuss options on how to turn the created design into a functioning website template.
To give a better understanding of the background that I've come from about eight years ago I moved back to the UK with my family having spent 2 years living in New Zealand. I enrolled in a BSC Hons Degree in Computer Software Development. The course provide me with the basic foundation of both web design & development fundamentals and I quickly realised I had a passion and a knack for design.
Since Gradutating I've built on commercial experience by designing and building websites for the likes of IT Firms and Design Agencies. I have developed strong skills in building websites with front end technologies such as HTML, CSS and JavaScript and back-end technologies such as PHP and MySQL enabling myself to be involved in the development process of a website. I am proficient in design softwares such as Photoshop, inDesign and Flash.
The reason I wanted to get involved in the eDesign team was to have the chance to utilise my skills on a wider variety of website. Our aim at the eDesign team is simple to provide bespoke web design & development at an affordable price.
Paul Dowding
Hello, My name is Paul Dowding and I am the Technical Director here at the eDesign team. Although I have some say in the design of a website, my main expertise lie in web development. Once a design has been signed off I then step in and begin the process of turning the design into a fully functional website.
I got into web development about 10 years ago, soon after I left school. Since then I went on to study computer science at college and then at university, where I realised my passion for web development was something I could turn into a career.
Since graduating I have split my time between 2 web design agencies, as well as completing numerous freelance projects. I now consider myself an expert in database design and specialise in ecommerce websites and content management systems, allowing clients to edit their own content or add their own products to the site.
My main reason for becoming part of the eDesign team is obviously to continue working on great websites, but also to show our clients just how easy it is to get their company trading on the web. All our clients need to do is tell us what they want, we do the rest. It really is that simple.
My areas of expertise are as follows; HTML, the base programming language for almost all websites on the web. PHP, one of the most widely used ecommerce / CMS programming languages. In recent years I have come to rely on JavaScript and AJAX to provide dynamic elements and improve the usability of each site. At the eDesign team all databases are created in MySQL. It is (in my opinion) far better than the alternatives out there.
